Flaking a Helmet

Mac-Valve Maestro!
I've been asked to paint a Bell motorcycle helmet and the design has been pretty much left up to me.

I'm thinking I'd like to flake it with my Flake King. I was thinking to give it a light sanding with 400 grit, prime, spray black, then FK50 then flake.

However it occurs to me that it's already black! Would 400 grit then straight to the FK50 and flake work? Maybe I should use an adhesion promoter first?

Any thoughts welcome!

If im not mistaken (its been a long time), adhesion promoter is for when you can't create a chemical bond like painting on freshly painted or mechanical bond as in scuffed surface. It bites into the surface giving you the mechanical bond for the outer layers.
On a side note, I wouldn't use it unless absolutely necessary, it's just adding one more layer that could fail. I'd scuff, prime, paint, clear.
