Nice to have a commissioned piece on the go. I’m sure this will turn out great, as usual!

I hate poor reference photos. you start seeing things that may or may not be there... is that skin texture or pixels from low resolution?

I agree. The time will come when students across the world will study musicmacd's work and technique. I think it already happens (I know that I, at least secretly, try to do it).

Mostly freehand hair work, erasing around the outside edges, burnt sienna and red violet for the hair and blue violet for the shadows, 01A713A5-78F5-4A75-99FF-9B23E6A413DF.jpeg

Reduced paint to help flow, there is some erasing in there too, but compared to my average paintings very little, I like the glow of freehandish hair :)

Many thanks. Should have guessed a Micron was tool of choice, seem every man and his dog have them (well, nearly.... :) ). Just wondering what you used to get such fine lines. My smallest needle is 0.2 H&S, although I don't feel confident enough yet to attempt any kind of portraiture. My next painting is something different to what I have done thus far. Its a Mediterranean courtyard scene with many differing shades and lumps n bumps (plasterwork). All taped up on my easel ready to go.

You'll have to post the reference when you're done for a comparison! Looking mighty fine at the moment!
