H&S 2024 Line

Hello everyone!
This is my first post here
Hi, Tonal! Welcome to the forum.

Phew, that is a mouthful of a post - First, about the trigger - most of your observations are pretty correct, but in terms of application, not really relevant. For discussions sake, the only aspect that will really matter is the interaction of the parts when the trigger is both depressed, and then pulled back.

The nozzle protrusion, as well as the gap around the nozzle in the nozzle cap are 100% the business end of the brush. Fractions of millimeters can make measurable differences in performance here. The "issue" on the H&S brushes is not the trigger (although they have an odd feel) it is the amount of pressure differential created across the nozzle tip, and its ability to overcome surface tension of the paint sample in the brush body. Paint reduction/air pressure are more important on the Infinity vs. the Evolution. Both are more finicky than many other brushes about getting it right - I have not experienced the same issues either the new Ultra, or Evolution - a least not to the same extent.

@DaveG
Thank you for your comments.
Your work is just amazing!

I understand that all the work is done
at the tip of the nozzle and its relative position with respect to the aircap.
Maybe the spoiler of the new Infinity is relevant.

How about the trigger button of the Infinity?
Does anyone know if it is pressed fit and can it be removed and then put back into place?
I'd hate to ruin it just to test what I have in mind.

While waiting for the new evolution to arrive and last week I was at home with the flu I thought that it was a good idea to take advantage of the time that I was fever free and make myself a new trigger for the infinity.
It's not yet finished but you get the idea.
Platinum Silver for the ball
yellow gold brass for the lever (?) and the button (not yet started it)
Rose gold copper for the "excenter"
The blemishes are not hard to spot but I hope it will work.

If this post is on the wrong thread please transfer it were it belongs to.

It will be interesting to see how the new trigger performs when you get it working :)

I got today the new Evolution.

I could only test it for about half an hour before leaving for the weekend.

I am relieved because finally the trigger response is trouble free and predictable.

The slightest pull is just enough to start spraying from a small dot to the finest line. It starts and stops at your command as it ought to do in the first place but this is another story .

I wonder what will the new Infinity bring to the table.

Just if anyone wonders.
The new evolution trigger fits just fine in the infinity. It seems to help a little bit with the trigger response.
You need to press the trigger though when inserting the needle if I am not mistaken.

The aircap and the two prong protective cap are different.
The obvious difference for the air cap is the knurled portion of it.
The protective two prong cap is machined differently and is a much tighter fit.

Parts list is still missing from the H&S site which is kind of annoying.

Stupid question - not that I'm at the point of needing to yet - how do you remove it? It looks like a friction fit with the split in it, but it seems quite solidly on.

Well it isn't easy for me, but did it off. Turn like your tightening it up while putting your finger nail between it and the cap and pull. But it takes a bit. You'll get it.

I removed it by twisting it.
I replaced mine with the older version which is much easier to remove.

i read that H&s is aquired by Iwata. this is interesting. iwata makes the best brushes in the world for the highest price at this moment. i wonder, will iawata allow H&s have a the same quality brush as the iwata micron? would that not undermine the iwata brand?

Whoever wants to get a custom micron will get a custom micron and will probably indulge to other tempting offerings from other brands :)
After all there is already direct competition between other non CM Iwata and H&S airbrushes.

Harder and Steenbeck belongs to the Anest Iwata Group since January 2017. the quality of H&S AB’s were and are superb. They even brought out a new Ultra 2024 and Evolution 2024. Sometime soon there should also be a new Infinity on the market. Some artists swear on Iwata, some on Badger, H&S, Creos ect. So there not undermining the Iwata brand, it’s just the opposite they are selling H&S airbrushes to those that feel more comfortable with them than with an Iwata. So forcing H&S to produce lower quality AB’s they would be cutting into there own flesh.

I am thinking about Toyata....Toyota is the normal brand...Lexus is the high end brand... Both brands who are owned by the same mother company will never mix both brands..... not sure if this happens to H&S, but why would Iwata destroy their brand by creating an H&S infinity that is better than the Iwata Micron? Does not make sense....

Airbrushes are a (very) tiny part of what Anest Iwata does. It has been part of their growth since the company's inception to acquire other company's and add them under one umbrella without altering the product much, if at all. Other than people occasionally finding out that Iwata purchased Harder and Steenbeck and bringing it up, I don't expect we will see much change in the brands.

I dont think h&s are undermining iwata in the airbrush sector. They both seem to have different design philosophies and different people align with different brushes and the direction each company has gone to achieve it.

If anything they are covering more bases. Ultimately now they have more products in house, that were already in existence, that cover more of the airbrushing population than the micron alone.

People who want a micron will get one but they are not in everybody's price range or to everybody's taste. I don't currently feel the need for a micron but thats because I don't feel good enough at airbrush to release its potential, yet. I feel like I would be wasting my money until I have alot more practice and experience. So in that respect I would probably get an infinity before a micron still, regardless of if iwata own h&s or not. As all of my brushes have been second hand, even a second hand micron is 3 times the price of a secondhand infinity.

Still no news on the infinity 2024?

Are these 2024 brushes the first real next gen of these 3 models? Most other things i can seem to find are more upgraded parts like the v2 needles or add ons like the 3 seals. The others being additions to the line rather than succeeding the older design, for example the evolution still being available but then the silverline, cr plus and Al have been added alongside it.

What came before the pre 2024 gen brushes in the ultra, evolution and infinity range?
