Hi everyone

RK Ink and Focus

Gravity Guru
Hi,

I have recently began airbrushing again and tinkering with airbrush repairs. I love creating art but I am my own worst critic.

First brush was an Aztek, which became unrepairable, at the time I could not afford to get a NEW brush so gave it all up.

Wanting to get back to airbrushing, I began to pick up a few old bits and I now have all I need to be airbrushing again. I must say I think old airbrushes are great.

I have a few old brushes that I have brought back to life and some fixer upers which I hope to keep going/get going again!

Thats pretty much it!

Welcome to the forum Rkabf. Great you got some old ones together that you can use. If you don't mind my asking, what brush(es) do you have? I like old ones.

What type of painting do you do?

If you put in where you are from it will help other members answer questions such as "where can I get parts for a brand X brush"? There are members all over the world on this site ready to help if you need it.

Hi, thanks for the tips.

I paint various things, from trying to paint portraits, usually in acrylic inks, to enamels on metal sculptures I make, to clay models and cardboard with my kids.

Brushes I have:

Thayer and chandler model A
Aerograph sprite major ( striped and needing repair)
Badger 200-2
Badger 350
Revell profi 700 (which I believe is a badger 150)
Premiair g35 (which i believe is a sparmax sp35)

I picked them all up very cheap not working and have all up and running with a bit of loving attention so far apart from my sprite major which is currently my project.

Regards

Richard

That's a nice assortment.

I have a "thing" for TC model As.

The Aerograph Sprite Major is a bit different than the rest. I hope you can get it in good working order again.

The Badgers are easy to come by here in the US.

I know TC/Badger made brushes for Revell of Germany. I'm not familiar with the Premiair/Sparmax brush although I did look it up. Looks like a nice brush.

Thanks, the thayer and chandler model A is lovely, its a totally different feel to the others, so light in your hand, very short front end. It is a right hander though and i am a lefty so i have had to adapt my grip for it.

My premiair g35 is very heavy but very durable and easy to clean. I let my kids use my single action brushes mostly but do use them occasionally, more the 200. I am hoping they will get the bug for it and do it as a hobby too.

The sprite major is very light too, I like the nozzle set up in it its definately different in design to the thayer and chandler and badgers which have similar design concepts.

There's posts on the forum regarding the relationship between TC and Badger. If I can find it easy I'll post the link here. Won't be til tomorrow though.

Looked at the Revell Profi IDB 700. While the design concept is very similar to the 150, I see the body is slightly different (2 side holes) and the head is very short. However it seems it uses the same nozzle/needle and probably all internals as the 150 (the best airbrush ever made lol ) series.
Could it be a unique cosmetic design for that specific customer?
It gave me a TC vibe to it.

Thanks,
Ismael

😂 I have read the badger 150 is the best brush ever. If its the brush that gets most people into the art, who can disagree! It is a nice brush, alot heavier spring action than the thayer and chandler and more weighty, very similar to the 200 (apart from being double action).

I feel my 2 badger brushes and revell are a good learning curve for my kids to step up through too. But I am rather fond of my revell so I may have to shop for a repairable 150 when they are confident enough for it!

Now you mention it, maybe it is more thayer and chandler in design, it maybe why I am more fond of it, it does seem shorter than pictures of a 150. If I ever get a 150 I will try and remember to post a picture of them side by side.

I am no expert but I believe the Revell brushes are TC bodies but the brushes were made by Badger. I'm also fairly certain that Badger would make brushes to the specs of the various companies that they were producing them for. Hence the different head design (I looked the brush up too). It looks like it has an AA head to me but my eyes are old.

The regulator tip looks like the AA but the threads are shorter.

The head looks like a shaved TC/Badger head

See what you made me do? lol

I can see I am going to have some fun on this forum! its great to see enthusiastic people on the subject!

Here is a comparison photo of my profi 700 and my thayer and chandler

(Overall length comparison)

Sorry they are blurry, I will strive to do better next time! I also assure you they are lined up on the rule its just perspective that makes them look off!

The Airbrushes for Revell were made by Badger and or TC. My first Revell AB was a Badger 150 even labeled Badger 150. At some point they came out as idb 700 with internal parts from Badger. The last were idb 750 with the Vega head system from TC. TC Vega 2000. Here comes the strange part, Badger brings out the 175 Cressendo with the Vega head system. The spare parts are marked TC and Badger. So I guess Badger and TC have both been producing for revell. 🤔😉

I looked up the vegas and they do have similarities in the look of my revell. Perhaps its a bit of a change over point between revells use of badger design with the older head and thayer and chandler style body.

This is a size Comparison of profi 700 to my poor old badger 200, the chrome suffered and it marks up quick no matter how much i clean it. Head assembly is noticeably longer.

I like both for different reasons, the 200 is nice to use. Not being a full pro at airbrushing, single action can be handy sometimes!
