any hints and tips for getting the needle cap off easily? It is a very tight fit and I can only remove it with the needle out (as I don't want to damage the needle when trying to remove it)

I remove the needle prior to removing the cap anyway. If you tighten it by accident or put any sheering stress on the needle/nozzle, you take the chance of damaging them.
Mine is never difficult go remove, when putting the cap on, does it feel like the threads are binding at all?
