hello all I’ve been wanting to paint IT for some time now but didn’t feel I could. After learning some techniques from here and you tube I thought I’d have a go and hopefully pass on some decent tips!!

first thing I done was to spray Matt black an A1 size 5mm piece of poster board as I feel this material works for me. I then printed out a template from Microsoft paint which enables you to print out a big picture in A4 pieces

I then cut out some parts with a scalpel to make the template and give it a light mist of white (I’m using createx wicked through out).

Once I had the general outline, I started layering it up with a ratio of 10:1 thinner and white. I also started to use some texture templates which worked really well.

Thats it for now, I have more photos but its taking a long time to shrink them to under 500kb. Anyone know of a way to batch shrink images??

Managed to shrink some images (easy resize.com). Back to it, I continued to layer and layer using the texture stencils (you can see in above pic) until it started to look like the clown. A lot of layers and a lot of patience lol.

At first the board seemed to soak up the paint a little but i kept on layering. I also started on the eyes as because of the colour, a white base would be best. As always though i became inpatient and wanted to progress onto a bit of red!! Mainly because it seemed i wasnt getting anywhere:thumbsdown:. It then started really coming together.

I then carried on layering with white, grey and believe it or not purple! thinned down black was also used to start applying shadow and to darken the red. I started to add some cracks in his make up as well.

After doing the first eye, i did forget i was going to use this as a step by step lol so i made sure the next eye was explained!! Something i have now used again and again is clear acetate, Its easy to cut and you can still keep your eye on what youre spraying!! The next eye used stencils again, the eye ball, the iris and the pupil hopefully the pictures will explain.

I did have a pupil stencil as well, i wanted to add a bit of shine so i used tape to keep the lines sharp.

After i completed the eye, i just kept going over areas with the texture stencils until i was happy.

And after painting in his collar with white, then black using a piece of card. IT was done!! Hope this comes in handy, as always im looking to progress and im looking forward to starting the next!! Its the biggest ive done and made me think i may need something bigger than a .3 needle lol.

Holy smokes! That’s a great job Steve. This piece turned out really well, nice textures and colour. At this size the .5mm might serve you well. Nice one Buddy, I like the SBS too.

At the same time if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! If your currently setup is working out then great. Unless ya just want a new Airbrush lol. Then you JB we have to make excuses for that here.

If you're using Photoshop you can resize a batch by creating an Action that will resize an entire file of images.
