    Hi Guys and Girls,
I wasn’t sure where to post so figured Open Bar is probably best.
I just took delivery of some magnets that I wanted to use for holding masking in place.
I think they’ll be good for this as it’s a pack of 100 ranging from about 5mm upto 15mm. They come square and cylindrical, best of all they were £3.00 delivered  . The smallest I could find is strong enough to hold a piece of A4 to the fridge, so I’m hoping they’ll hold down masks well enough and the different shapes and sizes should work for tight sections of a mask. Thought I’d share the link in case anyone else wanted to get some.
    Cheers.

Here’s a picture for scale. I can confirm a small one holds a thin Mylar stencil and an A4 sheet of 14mm Terraslate to the fridge lol.

Just to throw one post to this topic, so you are not alone here :D I ordered few stuff from foxy studio few weeks ago, so I did throw some neodymium magnets in to my basket just for fun and to try how they work. Damn those little suckers are strong -.-

Those magnets look strange, they look like the old carbon type magnets, I just got some neodyme magnets also from eBay, a little bit more expensive at 50 for a fiver but they're strong enough to hold stencils to my whiteboard even through thin MDF

I've always used magnets and white after a bad experience with Frisket, mind you is there any other type of experience with Frisket? :)

I hadn’t tried any in the past and figured these were cheap enough to throw away if they didn’t work well enough. The main thing I liked is the size to be able to fit into nooks and crannies.
I haven’t tried any Frisket yet either and from the sounds of it, I probably won’t .

I remember a friend of mine had some neodymium magnets when I was a kid. Bloody things gave me a blood blister when I trapped some skin between two of them lol. They’re super strong.

I got small ones, round 5mm x 2mm deep for that very reason, I've seen idiots hurt themselves on YouTube with them.

Definitely stay away from Frisket if you can, unless you want wax your chest:eek:

Your magnets should be fine but probably only work with paper or really thin board, the varying shapes and sizes make think they are leftovers from somewhere that makes or repairs electric motors and such, but a magnet is a magnet, my first magnets came out of my faulty mini electric motors from my model plane flying days and they worked just fine but not through 3mm MDF.

I thought they looked like leftovers too, they definitely have a look of internal components. But yeah, they should be fine for my needs to date. I’m picking up a piece of steel at the weekend that will be fixed to the little easel that I made, so the super cheap setup should work ok for now. My girlfriend’s Dad has an engineering firm, so I scrounge metal cutoffs every now and then.

just an idea. Easy to set them on your project and pick them as well. Magnets with hooks. If you can find them cheap enough

Why a piece of steel?, I use a magnetic whiteboard, they come in all different sizes and they're cheap as chips, I picked one up at the weekend in Glasgow for 5 quid 60cm x 40cm which will do me since I don't intend to do anything bigger than A4, when you're done working on it any paint you get on just wipes off with a damp cloth, unless you use urothanes of course.

I just put a strip of masking tape around them so that I have a little tab on the back to pull it off, the tape also stops them scratching my whiteboard.

Honest answer is only that I can get a 1mm thick piece for nothing and figured I’d paint it and fix it to my makeshift easel. It’s only a hinged couple of pieces of thin MDF and I don’t have a ledge.
That and I didn’t think about a small magnetic white board lol.

Well as long as you're going to paint it and make it look nice I'll allow itlol

Haha, I didn’t want it rusting and getting on any paintings. So I thought I can practice prepping, priming, painting and clearing while I’m there.
And I’m not secretly on eBay looking at whiteboards LOL. Not at all.

The neo ones are great but don't go any smaller than 5x5... tricky to pick up...

I just tested something. I have 40x 2mm x 2mm neo magnets. If I put 10 magnets on top of each other i can pull them easily. Works with 5 on top of each other also.
