After following this forum for a little while I have been inspired by the guys that customize their brushes and swap parts between them. I have a Creos 771 and was surprised to hear that the spray heads along with Iwata CM heads could be fitted to a range of other brushes.
I have a few Chinese CMC look-alike brushes and decided to try a 771 head on my favorite example, a Fengda BD-208 which has a smaller 2ml cup. I didn’t have a spare needle and tried a few of my selection of Chinese needles. There was no need for a new needle packing as standard diameter of these is within 0.01mm of the 771 needle. I was surprised to find that 0.2mm and 0.3 mm needles have a finer taper than the 771’s which is 0.18 nozzle. The 0.3 performed OK but not quite as good as the proper needle.
While I waited for a new needle to arrive, I decided to try my hand at turning down a Chinese 0.5 needle and this worked amazingly well. The taper is slightly overdone when compared it to the original but it does not seem to make any difference. I’ve included a close-up photo of the 2 tips, with the 771 on top and my ‘franken-needle’ below. The photo highlighted that 771 needle is overdue for a polish by the looks of things.
My next project is converting one of my PS-270’s and waste not want not, I will also mount the PS-270 head on another Chinese brush.
