SO I was just thinking............ lol

I thought I would start a thread and we could all have some fun and giggles as we watch this happn or not happen lol

I do not have the skill to free hand dray like the pictures of the month, but I do have a steady hand and lot of patience and I love to laugh even at my own expense lol

    So without further ado

I am going to be trying to airbrush a helmet, I have a solid white ICON Variant 4

I am going to try to do something "simple" first. I have blue "pinstripe"tape and lots of other kinds.

I have completely striped the Helmet and sanded it and the beak with 800 and some Grey scratchy pads.

Washed it and let it dry and primed it, now I am think I am ready to mask it off and have some fun. I can always sand it down again and start over.

The past few days I have been practicing with gun control and pressure, making lots and lots of dots lol and I have some geometric stencils I printed to practice on.

This is what I am using for an example, I didn't want something very complicated to start.

Please feel free to laugh, comment, help, ridicule, giggle, whatever.....

I want this to be fun!

Looks like some very tedious masking to me.

I am ready to start masking, My bike is red, black, white, so I think I will stick to those colours for the helmet.

It looks very thick and wet. And are those the paints you are using? Although the pigment is fine, they are meant for textile. That is why it is so thick and reducing it will make it more transparent and thus the many layers.

hey Andre, I didnt know they were mean for textiles. I got them from Amazon and I dont think they mentioned Textiles but I could be wrong.

I will look at the sections on the forum for the correct paints, may thanks.

Did you scuff the primer before paint. Using the normal Creates airbrush paints, I would also be concerned about adhesion. I would find the stickiest tape you have and do a tape test over where you painted. After all dried and set of course.
If you want to use Createx paint line, I would suggest Wicked and/or AutoAir. They are made for this type of applications.

Diving in and giving it a shot is a good way to learn. I think he guys have you covered in terms of the paint selection. But enjoying it is the part you can’t learn, so as that is already in the bag, you’re in your way Mate.

The part you have sprayed looks great. Yes those paints are normally used for textiles. The good folks here will steer you in the right direction paint wise. However I recall someone saying that they were ok for lexan shells because it was flexible. Don't quote me on that everyone, it was a reply I had from someone after I had made the same comment on a fB post that the paint is only for textiles. So it may work on the helmet. Not sure how long it will last. Apart from the paint your doing great.

Hi Twood, I did not scruff up the primer and I dont think it was thick enough either. We went to a local hardware store and got the primer, we looked for and asked about adhesive promoter but they didnt have any. So I decided to just have a go for fun. I will definitely look at those paint, thank you sir.
