so ever since I watched Fred make clay board on YT I wanted to give it a try but was leary about ordering all the stuff for it in case I made it and it either didn’t turn out or I didn’t like painting on it.
So it struck me the other day that I used to mix some stuff up when I was patching plaster and doing decorative ceilings. So I made one yesterday and it worked. So I thought I’d share how to make some with stuff you either have at home or can get at Home Depot
Here’s the supplies I used.
Durabond easy sand drywall mud. I happened to have 45 min. So I used that. It runs about $20
Some white interior semi-gloss trim paint. I’m using it out of a 5 gallon bucket but you could get a quart pretty cheap
A piece of 1/4 inch plywood cut to whatever size you want. This is 5x7 inches. And I have it primed white.
Step 1-mix your mud with some water. Try to get it right before it becomes like the texture of regular mud
Step 2- pour just a tiny bit of paint in.
Mix it til it’s pastey and smooth.
Step 3-Then coat your plywood
Hit it with a hair dryer and it’ll dry in a few minutes.
Step 4- sand and recoat.
Let that dry and sand again. It’ll come out bright white and smooth as glass.
So far it’s been great erasing and scratching.
Hope someone can use this idea too!
