Hey everyone. My name is Kris and I'm just getting ready to purchase my 'first' airbrush. I had purchased one from Michaels craft store years ago and made an attempt to learn. I didn't have enough time to get the basics down, so I returned everything and moved on. I have recently grown back into the urge to want to learn airbrushing. I'm going to buy the badger Krome, and everything else I need to get going. I'm excited to get back into learning, and hopefully I can get stone help along the way.

Welcome to the forum from NH. You will love the Krome. Just realize that it will have a learning curve too. Being pre installed with a small needle nozzle you will want to reduce your paints at least 1:1 if not more . That is reducer to paint. This will allow for paint to pass through the nozzle easier. It will also let you build color slower.

Start with a transparent paint. If you use wicked, auto air,or Createx illustration , get the 4012 / w500 reducer. Other paints like spectra tex , Etac, and ops one others, can be reduced with water. If you live near a Michaels they have the spectra tex. Hobby lobby has the wicked , wicked detai( finer ground than regular wicked), and standard Createx. Regular Createx is thick, can be reduced with water, and is not lightfast, really more of a textile paint .

If you need a compressor, if you decide on an airbrush specific one, make sure it has an air tank. Also a regulator/moisture trap set up.

Just a few things to get you going.

We all are here to help. I may not always write a book. But I do look at or like many posts. And if it wasn't for others helping me in the beginning I would not be as far along as I am, even though I'm not that far, but that's a time issue on my end.

second home? Dude if your not wiling to sell your apartment and move in with us full time, we don't want ya!.....kris I'm kidding of course...wmlepage has given some good advice there to get you started, without wanting to bombard you with to much info my best advice is get your equipment as wmlepage says, then get on youtube and watch airbrush tutors videos from the beginning...lots of important info there about paints and reduction etc, it makes more sense when you have the stuff in front of you.....do well brother and any further questions just ask

Hi Kris, welcome to the forum. I'm from the Hudson Valley area. You've found the best forum of friendly people who like to help. :)

Hey kris, welcome from Pennsylvania I too am a noob and seems like a good bunch of folks here so far!

Hi Kris welcome aboard. I ordered a krome as well and hope to receive it this week. I've heard a lot of good things about it from my forum family here. To get hooked, one thing that worked for me (after you practice dagger strokes and dots for a little bit) is to tackle a small and easy project. For me I used marvel comics logos (or something you really like), don't pick something that is too challenging as you may loose interest and get discourage very quickly. The goal was to have fun and get the juices going, and it got me hooked :) During this process, I learned how the airbrush worked and how to play with the air flow, and yes, to get that damn paint working by figuring out the paint to reducer ratio :) The ratio depends on the types of paints you use.
