Hello there, I just joined up today. I build 1/24 scale drag slotcars, and decided to step up my painting game from rattlecans to an airbrush system.

I just picked up an Iwata Revolution CR and a Silverjet compressor for a steal. The girl I got it from was going to use it for make up, but she never used it. Her loss my gain, and I got the set for $100.

I didn't want to drop a ton of money, one of my race pals says "Ya need to spend $300 to get a decent airbrush". Another says "Nah man you'll be happy with that $40 kit from Ebay". I says "I want the best equipment for the least amount of money". I don't need a $150 brush and a $200 comp just to paint a couple of model car bodies every month or so, but I also didn't want some cheap crap setup either.

I know the Silverjet compressor isn't top of the line, but it should get the job done for now, and the Iwata Revo cr is very highly rated, and like I said, it was a good deal.

Look foward to learning more about this stuff. I have a ton more reading to do. Good forum ya have here.

Welcome to the forum from indiana. That was a good price for the set being as I think my wife paid double that almost for just the silver jet compressor. The compressor gets hot quicky though. After like 30 min or so of being on (never shuts off because it's tankless) it gets really hot and needs as much time to cool back down. Might not be an issue for you, but I hate getting all into my painting just to stop. I've made it work though. Good luck with your airbrushing endeavor and be sure to ask any questions you have and post pics up of your work

We'll see how it goes. If this compressor doesn't work, there is a Harbor Freight 2 minutes away. When I spray my cars, I dont think I spend more than 10 mins a session.

One reason I really want to try an airbrush, is because I have smurfed up two different cars from rattle can clear coats. That last one really got me mad...hours and hours of work down the tubes...daggum bubbles...anyway, I'm hoping an AB and a good clear cloat will help. After much practice of course.

The main thing is practice and building the muscle memory , That CR can pull some pretty fine detail even on those small models

Welcome to the forum, you got a good deal there. Airbrush is a pretty decent one and the compressor is ok for short bursts. If you find you need more then you can always upgrade the compressor to a tank model. There's a few on the market and I'm sure you will get some recommendations from the peeps here.

Thanks for the welcome guys. My package should be arriving at some point today. Yesterday I picked up some Autoair Candy 20, some Wicked pearl, some 4030, 4012, some silver sealer and a bottle of 4004 for a top coat, and some Wicked brush cleaner. I'm sure there is something I need that I didn't grab, but I plan on hitting HobbyLobby again today. Cant wait to jump into this.

I'm blown away by the talent I've seen on this forum. I was going into this with the thought of "I'll just use it for painting model cars"...I did tattoos many many years ago, but I was better at building the machines than slinging the ink.

This forum has inspired me to get back into art. My wife said this is the first time she has seen me draw anything in 11 years...

Welcome from the U.K. BIG fan of Vegas right here. In fact I’d say Screw Disney Land, the strip is the happiest place on earth LOL. I spent my 34th Birthday on the roof of The Rio casino and I’d go back any day. Welcome.
