As an idea for the competition, maybe you can use a portrait of someone as the reference pic that needs to be 'meched up'?

Cleevé Why do you not like the name Clive? Have you had a bad experience with a man called Clive?
I always see a Clive as a seeeeedy postmaster with a massive ****duster of a moustache and always wearing a heavy weave navy plus jumper.
Don't worry Cleevé we will help you through this.

Stop picking on Cleeve Digus or i'll get Adam to ban you. He'll do it too, he's got the technology and the permission settings.

Oh yes... I can see what you mean... I can really feel the tension penetrating through this thread!

Still, I think it's the best way to approach this competition...despite what this one person thinks...Dr didere is always one. This is a great opportunityto incorporate the current Cameron Diaz monotone tutorial as the reference, link from YouTube to the forum about the competition.... The tutorial is there to help those new ones out, and then the competition is to mech up Cameron!!!
I had in mind something like what Giger did to Deborah Harry.
Tutorials get promoted, competition gets promoted, sponsor gets promoted....aspiring artists get more exposure and an opportunity to maybe try something different. It's win win win and love all over the place!

Put a head band on this and some swept back ladies hair and you have Gigers Debbie Harry :)

How about choosing a pic of an animal, say a horse for example. Then every one has to mech it up themselves, but still be able to tell that you've used the ref. That way the imaginations can fly, and I love to see the different ideas people can come up with using the same ref.
