Paint drying on needle.

Hi everyone.
At the moment I use an eBay airbrush for training, I use Vallejo paint and homemade reducer. After a while 40-60 minutes, the spraypattern changes and just gives an overspray look and no lines at all. When I dissasemble the brush, paint has dries on the last section of the needle before the nozzlehead. Is this waterbased paint standard behavior, or do I do somerhing wrong?

You dont have a problem .. You could probably help some of us out LOL tip dry is part of the game and yours is minimal I pick it off with my fingernails but there are many ways to do it It is best to clean the tip before you pull it out of the nozzle though

Tip dry is not the issue, the paint dryes on the needle inside the airbrush before it exits the bozzle, mabey not dried but a layer of paint that kind of sticky and makes the paint come out more like a mist.

Hey Bosse, try polishing the needle with a metal polish, some of the airbrushed you get of eBay etc are just mild steel needles and under a magnifier are quite rough in texture on the surface.
If you polish it and get it smoother there's less for the paint to bind to.just make sure you don't put too much pressure on the needle when you polish it as it's mild steel, it'll bend very easily.
Hope this helps

Ok, at the end of this month a HP-CH will be ordered and the problem would become much smaller then.

i agree about the polishing.... i use a buffing compound on my master g44 needle and it improved 100% i cant afford a new brush yet but cant wait till i can....lol

Polishing your needle always helps in times of need...Um will leave that thought quickly, one of your issues could indeed be the homemade reducer..The easiest home made reducer to use comes straight outta your tap..Just try some water and maybe if you have some, a drop or two of glycerin..See if that also helps..GL

Man, you should give stress reduction seminars!

Hahaha I do them every Friday night with the boys, its called getting Drunk though in Australia..:)..And woohoo...Today's nearly Friday so better get practicing.LOL

Polished the needle yesterday, didn't hav time to try it, but through a microscope it looks mutch better. The reducer is 3 parts destilled water, 1 part denaturated alcohol, 1 part clear, ammonia free windowcleaner and glycerin depending on the amount of reducer I do. But I will have a go att just water also.
