Hi guys, im having a problem with my paints.. I dont know if they are too thick or too watery.. The picture attached is the airbrush at 50psi at about 15cm away ( 5 - 6 inches ) and pulled back fully and held there for about 2 seconds.. I tried adding a little more water but then it gets even lighter so im guessing i need to thicken it a bit? But everytime i do so it clogs or spits alot..

It is simply clogged, you need to break it down and clean the nozzle and everything around, there is a good chance it was clogged with machine oil form the factory or if you have used it a lot recently it hasn't been cleaned properly, if you are unsure how to go about that, check out the tutor's YouTube channel where there is a video on how the clean and tune your brush.

Hi Rumor, question time, What airbrush are you using? What paint are you using? Have you filtered the paint?
Minute lumps in the paint may be the cause of the spitting. Filtering the paint first will take out those lumps. When you thin it out it will spray lighter, you have to make multiple passes to get it to the darker shade. Please give us a bit more info on your setup, it will help us answer your questions and get you painting quicker.

Im using acrylo acrylic paint from rolfes, and im using the AirCraft SG A180 airbrush with a .25mm nozzle.. I totally forgot about the filtering but that can explain the spitting then.. I only use acrylic for practice.. I have Createx paint on order..

Is the paint your using made for airbrush? if not the pigment is probably to heavy to go through your airbrush, most airbrush paints go through at far lower pressure with no problem, so you might want to look at changing your paint to something more related.

acrylo acrylic paint from rolfes are these the tube version containers ? It is designed for hairy brush work and not ab work if it is.
While you can reduce and filter tube paint to work in say a .35 or larger airbrush . The pigment in them for the most part is to big for smaller nozzle airbrushes and will clog them up.
Also the more you reduce the paint the more layers you may have to put on to get full color.
Which createx do you have on order ? Standard textile Create , Wicked /Wicked Detail , Createx illustration ?
Standard createx is desogn for textiles and a .5 set up . But you can get it to work in smaller brushes.
50 PSI??? why so high. 35 psi is about the highest I go unless I am doing T-shirts then 60 psi.
and the more I reduce the paint the lower the air pressure some time I go as low as 2 psi .

@Mr.Micron thanks for the help yet again. Im not sure but on the bottle it sais Createx airbrush colours ready to spray on textile ..Thats about the only details they have on the website. So im guessing its the one that ill need to reduce. Or maybe just get a bigger nozzle.. I set it to 50 psi to see if it would make any changes.. But i usually run at between 20 and 30 psi.. Sorry for the dumb questions.. Haha.. Im still learning

@Rumor001, Rolfes is a south African brand that uses cheap Chinese paint. You've actually done pretty well getting it to spray like that taking the airbrush in account as well. Go and get yourself Dala acrylic ink. That is the best bang for your buck. Alternatively you can look at Daler Rowney FW or Liquitex inks. Quite price but very good.

Thanks @AndreZA, i will deff go and check them out.. Not too worried about price.. I actually did a little design with it but i didnt like it so i chucked it.. Haha.. Thanks for the help

I just checked and i do have Dala acrylic paint laying here.. Hahahaha.. Ill try it out tomorrow

Hi, Rumour001.
Try the ink out, but first lower the air pressure, or you'll have spits for sure!
If it flows much better than the paint, you know it's gotta be the paint.
My advice is, if it turns out to be the paint - give it the old heave ho!
{Or give it to someone who uses craft paint}
Hopefully, end of paint problem.
On the createx side of things, if it is the fabric one you are getting,, unless you're into spraying shirts - please spend the time filtering and reducing it.
This Will save time and frustration later.
