Purchasing a spray gun

Hey could anyone give me some advice on buying a spray gun. Iv been researching about different types and brands and as there is a lot out there it’s hard to decide. I was planning on buying a couple of cheap ones but I’m guessing they won’t give as good a finish as Top brand gun. I will mainly by trying some automotive work on motorcycle tanks, Helmets etc. won’t be doing anything big.. I would be willing to buy an expensive gun if I could use it for primer ,base coat and clear or maybe just the base and clear and obviously clean it out.. If that’s not possible are there any moderately price guns for say around 200-300 that will give a nice finish..please give some recommendations for expensive and moderately priced guns plus brand names thanks.

Hay Keifer, I couldnt see any info to help fully, So where are you based.? So we can suggest where to buy from...

If you haven't already, how about telling us a bit about yourself, where your from what gear you have/use paints etc, it helps us in situations like this when you need some info.

Fist of all I am no expert on sprayguns and there maybe a better setup.

For primer go and buy a cheap $20 $30 gun with a 1.8 setup

A good gun for base and clear is the ANI R150 Mini Gun and not too expensive, 1.0 or 1.2 should be good for what you need.

I would look at the gunman as he does some good deals or sprayguns direct if in the UK

I'm sure others will also give recommendations and what setups for the Base and clear guns

Just yesterday was at TCP site. Found an interesting thing. Real cheap with three setups! 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0mm. It's similar to one of the sparay guns I have, but the handle is much more easier for cleaning after work. It normally works, will pay for itself. Wanted to post it in other thread.

This one is Starting Line from DeVilbiss. Haven't used these, but it's always possible to look for the feedbacks. I'd consider this set.

Maybe among Sharps, but currently they're all sold out.

For your needs Iwata's models would be great: W-101 or LPH-101. I have no idea what your local prices are.

My shop uses a specific gun for primer, a specific gun for anything that contains metallic or pearl, a specific gun for base coats and a specific gun for clear. A dedicated primer gun is necessary in my opinion. You can get away with using the same gun for the others provided it is cleaned extremely well in between (you'll think it's clean until you find little metallic flakes in your base coat from a previous spray... ask me how I know).

A spray gun recommendation cannot be made until you provide what kind of compressor you have or will be using. Spray guns require a lot of air!
