Hey guys, I recently purchased a SilentAir 20A and have used it about 6 times before an issue occurred where the compressor won’t cut off. It loads and loads the tank until the dump valve or pressure relief valve pops and it kicks right back on. It does this for as long as let it. Anybody have any thoughts? Going to call the company tomorrow.

    Thoughts...
    1. Sounds like a faulty pressure cut-off switch.
    2. Call the company first, as you've suggested, is it under warranty...?
    3. When you join a forum please be polite and do an introduction before asking questions... Where are you from, what sort of airbrushing do you do, what got you started... Here is a link to help you out... http://www.airbrushforum.org/introductions/

The pressure switch is either stuck or out of adjustment. I won't advise messing with it unitl you know whether playing around with the adjustment is going to void the warranty if there is one currently.

Oh ok so sorry. I’m new to the forum world. I’ll get to that. It should have a 12 month manufacturing warranty on it. I’ll find out tomorrow. I was eager to tear it apart so I could get back to it. Very frustrated with it given the price tag.

If you bought it from a shop either in person or online it should definitely have at least a 12 month warranty, but even if it doesn't you would still be entitled to a solution based on the amount of use it's had, contact the seller before trying anything else because any tampering at all wouldn't help your case.

I bought it online through S3Stores or Artist Supply Source.

Contact them as soon as you can, I'm sure they'll either refund you or give an exchange unit, they may even give you choice, form what I understand these usually fairly good compressors but now and again a faulty one can get through the checks, the fault your having isn't one that would show in a test so it's an easy thing to happen.

Let us know how it goes:)

    And welcome to the forum:thumbsup:

:thumbsup::thumbsup: I kind of thought they would, they would more than likely be as annoyed as you about the situation.

Quick update, they are having me clean a check valve with wd40 to see if it solves the problem. They sent me pictures and instructions and I was told it would not void my warranty. I’m about to do it now. I’ll let everyone know if it worked or not and share the photos and instructions.

The check valve?? doubt that will do any good. If you had pressure bleeding off or not building in the tank then yes but for this I don't think so.
If its actually pressure switch internals then maybe.

Here’s a pdf sent to me by the company with instructions on how to remove and clean! Hope it helps someone out. I would have never have guessed in a million years that that would be problem.

Oh I see they have a check valve going to the pressure switch...that makes more sense.
Or i guess probably something more closely related to balance valve

Glad to see you have it sorted. It doesnt look like much but its enough to cause problems. I know that this will be one of the first things folks will check if they have similar issues on similar compressors in the future.

Nice result @Billybamdam but strange that this should be necessary with new unit, but at least you have fully functional compressor and this thread will help a few in the future with the same unit:thumbsup:

Don't it make you proud when you put in a little of your own time and it actually works?:)
