But if a classic learning piece now. Some stone texture and using the sixpack to create a carved stone look.

Another Paint Pal 5x7.
This was taken from reference painted by Mike Lavallee. I liked the fact that the detail wasn’t too heavy, but the style leads to a complete image.
Trying to find something you think you can pull off that still pushes you a little can be tough. This one was fun.

Being that I started wanting to learn custom graphics it took a while to get round to some lol. This was following a video from Crag Fraser, doing what I could with the paint that I had at the time.
I want to say it was my first time playing with vinyl masking. But that may not be the case.
Spot the missing drop shadows lol. Still, the fades are pretty solid.

Back to the pop culture images.
Two of my favourite movie franchises meet up in a head to head brawl lol. I love this dumbass movie.
I was happy to have some smaller details turn out ok on this. But again looking back I should have taken it much further. I was so happy at the time though and that’s what counts.

I always loved the look of Ghostrider, also wanted another go at a skull and fire. This one definitely worked out better, obviously has plenty of things that didn’t go to plan. But there were elements I was pleased with. Small touches of yellow and red on the skull to show reflected light was something that felt like a step forward.

This was the first thing I was ever asked to paint for someone else. A friend has his own company and asked if I could paint a welding mask. Hand cutting all the masking including the letters was a task that convinced me to buy a plotter lol. Still, he was stoked with the outcome and it ended up being used in some press release photos. So that was kinda cool.

The group challenge Gargoyle.
A reference was found and a few of us decided to give it a whirl. I think I should have made this one larger for my ability at the time. But it was a fun challenge and nice to use some different colours.

Another go at some automotive graphics. The violet candy got away from me and I had some issues back masking too early. I like doing the graphics though and I need to do them more often.

Paint Pal. I used one of the stencils from Airsick and candy colours to try and create the glow coming out of the mask.

I had forgotten about this piece.
This was my first time using a mini gun rather than an airbrush to lay some candy. The techniques used are nothing ground breaking, but i loved it for the range of techniques. Mini gun to spray the metallic base, fineline tape and masking for the flames, airbrush the skulls, mini gun for candy and clear over the top.

This would be a first go at any kind of realism and a portrait. It’s all Candy2o paints and a good example of being impatient and going to dark.
I don’t think I ever fully finished this as it took me so long. But the features are where they’re supposed to be and it’s at least recognisable as a human, so that was better than I feared.

5x7 Paint Pal for Mark. This one was painted on a piece of Aluminium sign blank. I wanted to thank Mark for his effort as a Mod of the forums. I liked how the technique turned out and was an early project using my plotter.

This was a big project for me. I purchased the cut files and project tutorial from Scott MacKay. I like these pieces that use so much of the tools and techniques I want to learn. Mixing a candy base coat, using a mini gun to lay that down. Back masking and airbrush work for the web and spider with airbrush. It’s a really fun project to try.

This was another Scott MacKay tutorial using plotter based masking. Big fun to do. The background didn’t work as well as I’d hoped, but I learned a lot too.

A fairly simple practice piece. Actually 2 as I ended up doing some True fire on the other part of the panel. I enjoy doing Lightning. It’s a good looking technique and allows practice of some smaller, finer lines. But it’s forgiving as any blowouts either enhance the look or can be covered by a flash.

At the time, my nephew had two great loves in his life. NERF Guns and Star Wars. So I decided to put those two things together and custom paint him a blaster. Way more work than I thought it might be, but good fun.

Some more practice with using my plotter to cut masking. Looking back I think a mix of plotter cut and hand cut paper would be my approach.

This was a bit of a revisit to stone carving but adding some lettering using masking cut with the plotter. A fun quick piece that didn’t take me too long.

This was another paint pal. I re-did the same eye as my first PP. One because I thought it would be good to see how I’d progressed. The other was to show the recipient what could be done with just one colour. This was just Candy2o black layered as needed for shading.

I had been meaning to try the Xenomorph for a long time, but was always out off by the level of detail needed. This one didn’t end up as I wanted it. I got carried away and went about it the wrong way. I needed up using far too much white early on and the whole thing ended up too light.
But it was a good learning piece. I have since then started using a mid tone grey as the first round of a piece on a dark background. It has really helped to prevent being too saturated and I believe it’s led to more depth in my work too.
So although the piece was a bit of a fail, all in all it created a step forward too.
