[IMG]Really worked on texture for this one with no texture stencils. If I had them, I would use them as all those dots took awhile.
Looks better than my previous attempts, so progress is being made.
It seems on every rendering I attempt, there is always one spot that gets over worked due to a mess up. There were 3 on this one

Thanks Twood! 2 of the spots came out ok, the middle piece going into the nose cavity, and the left back tooth at the bottom, but the left side between the eye and nose is still a bit muddy.

Any one have a tip for correcting mistakes?

ok, I've embedded the image for easier viewing which will help with us assisting you in the areas of concern to you.
first let me say what a great job you've done, all with no stencil :)

I can see the 'muddy' area you mention, if you sharpened the eye socket and nose cavity edges it may help. Paper shields will be of help with that (and the foggy area on top of the skull :) )

the only tip for correcting mistakes is to go ahead and correct them, use it as a learning experience. usually taking it back to the base colour (bone colour in this case) then redoing the details will be the route to take.

you haven't mentioned what you are painting on or what paints you are using - both bits of useful info to assist you better.

Twood is right though, normally if you don't point things out most people won't see it, we are our own worst critics.

Because we all airbrush we may point out things you hadn't noticed or even think about and because we like to help people progress you will likely get advise wether you ask for it or not, its not meant to be critical and destroy your confidence its just us trying to help you improve

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:Thanks for embedding the image! I couldn’t figure it out lol.
That’s the way I corrected the area, but I find redoing it never comes out as good as I would like. Or as good as if I hadn’t made the mistake in the first place. Probably just my inexperience

And just to clarify. I didn’t use texture stencils. I did use a paper stencil of the skull for the basic shapes, and a freehand shield.

I am painting on 110lb general use art paper with Createx Illustration paint, but the bone color is Wicked opaque cream color.

And I didn’t even notice the top of the skull you mentioned. Now I can’t stop noticing it.

Thanks for your tips and insight!:)

Skulls are so much fun! What the others said! You don't need texture stencils... they can be helpful but I've not used one on mine yet.

Dude you’re doing fine! I only spotted one area that you mentioned so that’s a major win. The Gerald Mendez texture stencils from Artool are great. I find the Nano size has been great for most of the sizes I work at and that size is pretty cheap. They’re definitely worth the money.

Thanks! It is probably my best so far.
Black, white, sepia, and a brown/umber color I mixed up. All Createx Illustration.
