Stencils for a sphere?

Hey guys, I'm looking to airbrush some letters and logos on a wooden sphere, and I'm just wondering if theres any tricks to this. It's hard because when I tried to cut out a stencil the first time, when I put it on the sphere I'd forgotten that theres some distortion that goes on which completely ruined the logo and final product. Any help is appreciated, thanks :)

I was watching videos on painting motorcycle helmets and they were using a stretchy masking paper. I think it was made by Artool. I know Coast Airbrush carries it. How small is the sphere? Maybe longitudinal lines of masking tape?
