started off ok

Then marking out the scales went to absolute poop!

So decided to try and salvage the pic by doing a bit of scratch erasing, so out came the pointy bamboo skewer and about 6 hours later I ended up with something a bit better

Finished piece looked ok in the end I think :)
A4 synthetic paper with Com-Art paints using the Timbertech AB, probably took Me about 20 to 25 hours all told :)

Looking at the reference I don't even know where I would start. Pretty sure I wouldn't start. It's just so much detail packed into a small size. I have no patience for that stuff.

I have no patience for practising lines and dots, so doing something complicated seems to help Me get to grips with things :)
that sounds like something I would say....
or
take a big bite and start chewing.
or
jump in the deep end and start swimming

:)

A nice easy one, hahaha. Amazing

Great reference pic! Pretty good outcome on the finished piece too Kingpin.
Black was probably not the best start to the snake, though, might I suggest something that may help?
If I tackled this piece I would've started with a light blue outline of the scales instead of black.
Slowly build up the blue as I went along and finish with an almost midnight blue, no black.

Lines and dots, I practice that when I'm testing the paint flow.
