Regarding stippling, as a clumsy person who is also very good at losing things, and who is convinced that her floor has a vacuum in in that sucks any possible dropped parts into the very bowels of the pit of hell, I don't tend to mess with the nozzle or needle unless I have to take it apart for cleaning. To stipple there are various ways of getting the effect, I just tend to kink my airhose and reduce the flow of air, you can adjust the size of splatter by how much you kink it, others place an item such as a piece of wood, or similar (I've seen a clothes peg used, a pencil, I guess what ever is to hand) and kind of bounce paint off it onto the surface, lowering the air pressure will affect the size of splatter.
