Article on airbrush history: "How the Invention of the Air Brush Transformed Commercial Art"

I’d love to see that Walkup brush from 1906, in the first pic. Doubt many got made/sold. I’ve not seen anyone share any photos of one anywhere. It’s the sort of thing I hope will come up somewhere one day.

I’d love to see that Walkup brush from 1906
This is a Walkup's next to last hurrah/patent and probably never made. In 1906 he's broken, his air brush has been a relic since 1893 and his company was struggling.
I thought this was a poor airbrush to show since it wouldn't be used in retouching which is what the article is about. Retouching, my grandfater's and my field.
I would have put a T&C "A" at the top of the article; it's the airbush that changed/invented(?) airbrushing. It's what was probably used to retouch the photos in the article.

a, He has one. b, He has made one, or both
There is another option to consider. He seems to know most everything about airbushes. What he doesn't know, he goes and finds out!
He could be a time traveler! He finds stuff out by goin' back in time.
I can evision him walking into Thayer & Chandler and sayin', "Olaus, What's up? Was it you or Jens that redesigned the trigger in 1896? You know what Henry says about Burdick, "He ain't Norwegian!"

It was an odd choice for the article for sure. Must have been hard for Walkup to see his brush surpassed so thoroughly. And later efforts like in 1906 were doomed to fail.

I can’t help dreaming of any old brush turning up to be seen really, even if only a prototype.

I love that period, and all the old retouched pics too. I wish it was a life I could have lived perhaps.
