Curious cut rear handle .

Ragno

Needle-chuck Ninja
Looking for things on the internet I came across this, it is a handle model that I have not been able to find who supplies it or what its origin is. Have you seen it before?

I remember seeing it in a video review. It wasn't about the airbrush. So I cannot remember where. But the odd handle like that really struck me as to how strange it looked.

I am guessing it was a early attempt at a preset handle because the video was quite old. A bit over complicated so they switched the the more universal screw type we see now.

It's an Iwata handle. Designed/patented by Hokushin Seiki (BB Rich) around 2000.

Someone, I think maybe Dave? has said that it wasn't produced for long because Badger who had their own patents for a similar handle threatened to litigate for patent infringement. I have one of these handles (aquired with a second-hand brush) but without the little bit which connects to the needle unforunately.

They were used by Iwata as a "Deluxe" version - I am pretty sure they were only marketed for a year or two. I have HP-AD, and HP-BD ad HP-SBD in the original cases. After Iwata stopped importing them, BearAir continued to import them on PEAK airbrushes for a number of years.

I really liked the design, it allows you to extract the needle without disassembling and at the same time it is well protected as the piece sticks out from behind and if it hits something, I think the nozzle would break. It's a shame they are a rarity, they are very cool.

I saw that too, and thought it was a personal customization...

It reminded me of the Triple-Action Handle invented by Gentry Riley, and Iwata also branded it until it was not. The Triple-Action Handle has a known issue of overtightening and damaging the needle guide threads. I ordered 3 sets from Gentry, it is handy but not with a nice price point.

Looking at this handle, it shouldn't have the same issue as the Triple-Action one. Now I'm interested in getting one...

I wanted to buy a pen like this but couldn't find one. I had to make a homemade aluminium piece that was pressed into the back of the needle. This combination essentially performs the same function as the Deluxe pen

Thanks, but since I'm completely happy with how my combination works, I don't need a Deluxe pen anymore, especially at that price.
I passed it on to you because when I said that you had looked for one and couldn't find it, I thought you might be interested, it's the one I saw and the only one I've seen apart from Dave's. It also seemed expensive to me, an HPC for that price I wouldn't buy it despite the handle.

After not waiting for the "Deluxe" pen on sale, I had to make something similar. I also managed to extend the functionality of my knob, now the spring tension settings can be adjusted without removing the knob due to the enlarged centre cutout.
The nozzle on the back of the needle is removable and can be fitted to any other needle of the same diameter if desired, it is made of aluminum and is very light and tiny at just under half an inch long.
I found it fascinating to cut tiny decorative notches with a jewelry tool.

Evening folks, Happy New Year!!!:) I stopped by the AIRBRUSH forums and did a search for possible threads on the new IWATA Vault Kustom CS

And wow I came across this near year end 2024 thread here discussing the now vintage circa 1998 IWATA double cut out handle with needle grip. This double cut out handle has returned on the new IWATA limited Vault Kustom CS. Nicely packaged, and folks I'm so tempted to make this purchase. As I stated on Reddit's forum I don't need another airbrush. I just want it..Anyway what do you guys think? Are you getting this new (kinda) revamped IWATA Kustom CS limited vault edition?

This is one of my IWATA HP-C's which I picked up sometime early last year because it has the double cut out handle that I've always wanted to purchase separately to fit to my already purchased IWATA airbrushes and because I got a good deal for it used on Ebay.:) Well Iwata list the part numbers for both the double cut out handle and needle grip in the owners manual. But the doing a parts searched on the IWATA-AIRBRUSH.COM didn't list parts as available currently.

I hate to be that guy, but are you sure you ordered the right brush? Merriartist is selling the regular Eclipse CS for $170, and i could not find the Kustom on their page at all (oops, I found it , never mind).
Hey, I'm glad you found it. I did fail to mention I had 10% off too on that purchase. Themerriartist.com had a 10% discount code that ended yesterday 01/17. That was also an added incentive to purchase now as the IWATA Vault Kustom CS retails for $262.00. Airbrush retailer SprayGunner is selling it for $224.00. Yep, Why wait? Oh and it's a limited release....🏆

I paid themerriartist.com a visit today and noticed they now have also priced the IWATA Vault Kustom CS airbrush the same as all the other major airbrush supply websites @$224.00 (standard discounted retail pricing, Priced down from the MSRP of $262.00).
